Joni Mitchell was born in Canada on November 7, 1943. She is known as being one of the best and most respected female singer ever. But that's not what this post is about. Though many may not know this, Joni Mitchell has been the inspiration behind many songs in the past 40 years.
Joni dated Crosby, Stills & Nash's Graham Nash in the late 60s. During their relationship, Nash wrote the songs "Our House" and "Lady of the Island" about her and their relationship. Joni was also having an affair with David Crosby at the time and he wrote the song "Guinnevere" about her.
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin were infatuated with Mitchell in the early 70s, which inspired them to write the song "Going To California" about her.
Sonic Youth wrote the song"Hey Joni" as a tribute to her. She is also mentioned in songs by artists Alanis Morissette and Frank Turner. Prince has also has referenced Joni Mitchell in some of his songs and on his albums.
Hundreds of artists has stated her as an influence on their music. Many musicians have covered her songs and still continue to today.
